Destinations

This section is dedicated to innovative, proactive and environmentally responsible businesses that through supportive partnerships and joined up thinking are creating Green Destinations. The partners comprise accommodation providers, activities, bars, restaurants, shops, activities and attractions that have received environmental certification or are members of a GreenTravel recognised responsible business programme. Their commitment to responsible tourism means that you can choose a destination for your trip – be it a weekend visit or a fortnight of fun – in the knowledge that you can sleep, eat, hang out, run around, visit, chill out and shop responsibly.

They are leading the way in boosting Irish tourism and establishing Ireland as the Green Destination for homegrown and international travelers.

Loop Head epitomises what the Wild Atlantic Way is about: panoramic cliff views, abundant local seafood, your choice of aquatic activities, and plenty of quiet beauty spots where you can pause and wonder at this unforgettable part of the world.

Loop Head Peninsula and Kilkee in Co Clare earned coveted EDEN recognition under the theme ‘Aquatic Tourism’. Famed for its impressive cliffs that dive dramatically into the Atlantic Ocean, this area boasts an incredible diversity of marine and bird life, as well as relaxing spas and beach resorts that date to Victorian times.

The best way to discover the area is on foot – hiking along winding seaside trails – by bicycle or by boat.

Loop Head Peninsula and Kilkee are famed for character and charm, and local people who are genuinely interested in meeting visitors and showing them how to make the most of their stay.

As a destination it’s already famous with geologists and birdwatchers. The peninsula’s stunning sea cliffs are one of the few places in the world where geologists can study the 340 million year old carboniferous sedimentary basin. Further information visit www.loophead.ie

Make sure you:

Visit the West Clare Currach Club, which revives the lost art of building and racing traditional fishing vessels.
Take a boat trip on the Shannon to see bottlenose dolphins.
Visit Kilkee beach for surfing, wind surfing, kayaking, yachting and diving.
