The Fitzwilliam, a contemporary luxury hotel designed by Conran Design Partnership opened in the summer of ‘98 on St. Stephen’s Green, heralding a new departure for the hotel industry in Ireland. The arrival of the “designer hotel” to Dublin indicates a move away from the large multinational hotels of the past few decades. The ultimate in hotel chic, the Fitzwilliam represents both a cosmopolitan landmark for the city and stylish retreat from the everyday hustle and bustle of city life.

The Fitzwilliam Hotel has many features that set it apart from its competitors. Its interior is the creation of CD Partnership, which has contributed immensely to contemporary culture over the last thirty years. Every feature of the hotel, from luggage holders to light fittings, has been tailor-made by this acclaimed company.

Style is at the very heart of the Fitzwilliam. Ignoring the traditional hotel trappings in favor of modernist architecture, the design that defines the Fitzwilliam has given rise to a new concept entitled “Baronial Modern,” which is a unique marriage of the spirit of the past meeting the present. The interior features many themes often found in a country house, but updated and given a contemporary feel. Clearly, the Fitzwilliam Hotel heralds a new age in Irish hotel design.

Autumn 2002 saw Kevin Thornton relocating his Michelin star restaurant to the Fitzwilliam.  Thornton’s is located on the first floor overlooking St. Stephen’s Green.  Our mezzanine restaurant, Citron, with Head Chef Alan Brady serves modern Irish cuisine set in chic surroundings.  The Inn on the Green with pewter bar and parquet flooring is the meeting place for Dublin’s in-set. Other features of the Fitzwilliam include: Ireland’s largest roof garden, three conference rooms with high-tech AV facilities, 24h accessible complimentary gym, 24h accessible complimentary business center and 139 executive, superior and deluxe bedrooms – including two signature suites – all equipped with multi-line telephone facility, complimentary broadband, CD player, and personalized voicemail. Launched in December 2004 the hotel presents one 160sq meter two-bedroom penthouse suite outfitted with a baby grand piano, private bar and two fireplaces. In co-operation with Spirit Salon the Fitzwilliam offers guests to pamper themselves with treatments in the beauty salon, nailbar and hairdressing salon within the hotel.  2008 marked the Fitzwilliam’s 10th year in business, and to celebrate the hotel completed a full refurbishment of all 139 bedrooms.

The Fitzwilliam Hotel is more than just a place to rest between sights. It is a destination unto itself. This “fin de siecle” hotel is a dizzying confluence of first-class location, cutting-edge design and happening restaurants. More and more often, guests are looking to choose a hotel that represents their personality and is conducive to their lifestyle. This can be found at the Fitzwilliam Hotel, which offers an oasis of comfort, friendliness and style in the maelstrom of city life.

The Fitzwilliam Hotel was voted the Georgina Campbell Business Hotel of the Year for 2010.
